BEKASI CITY – A member of Commission IV of the Bekasi City Regional House of Representatives from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction emphasized his commitment to continue overseeing various efforts to address challenges in the education and social sectors, which remain major tasks in Bekasi City.

According to the member, one urgent issue that requires serious attention is the shortage of teaching staff in public schools.

“Currently, we are short of around 1,400 teachers, and it is estimated that by 2026 the number could reach 2,400 teachers due to many entering retirement,” the member stated in a recent announcement.

The member believes that resolving this issue cannot rely solely on the local government. Synergy and cross-sector collaboration with various parties, including higher education institutions, are needed.

“The government cannot solve it alone. There must be collaboration with organizations, universities, and various other parties,” the member emphasized.

Commission IV of the Regional House of Representatives has encouraged cooperation between the Bekasi City Government and several universities, such as UNISMA Bekasi and Padjadjaran University Bandung, to improve the quality and availability of teachers in the region.

As a solution step, the Bekasi City Government, through the Education Office, is currently implementing a cooperation program with several universities to assign education students as temporary teaching staff in schools.

“They will receive an honorarium of around five hundred thousand rupiah per month and teaching experience certification that can be used after graduation,” the member explained.

“There is a six-month MOU. During the holiday period, they focus on assisting in schools. This is a creative step to address the teacher shortage without violating the Ministry of Education and Culture’s regulations,” the member concluded.
