BELU – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI has strengthened its role in maintaining Rupiah sovereignty in border areas by inaugurating a Money Changer Unit at the Motaain Cross-Border Post (PLBN) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday (April 15, 2026).

The Director of Treasury & International Banking at BRI stated that the presence of the money changer service at PLBN Motaain is part of BRI’s efforts to support cross-border transactions through the formal financial system while ensuring the smooth circulation of the Rupiah in areas with high transaction activity.

“PLBN Motaain is a strategic point with high cross-border activity, so the need for foreign currency is part of the community’s transaction activities. Through the money changer service we provide at this location, BRI ensures that all foreign currency transactions can be conducted officially, safely, and integrated with the banking system. This step helps maintain smooth cross-border transactions while boosting the economic activity of communities in border areas,” he said.

In line with strengthening these services, BRI has also introduced Money Changer Units at other PLBNs, such as in Badau (North Kalimantan). Nationally, BRI’s money changer transaction volume increased by 39.7% year-on-year throughout 2025.

PLBN Motaain, located in Silawan Village, East Tasifeto District, Belu Regency, NTT Province, is one of the main hubs for cross-border activity, handling immigration, customs, quarantine, security, and integrated administrative management functions, thus playing a key role in supporting cross-border mobility and trade.

The inauguration was attended by the Deputy Assistant for Land Border Potential of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), representatives from BRI, TNI and Polri personnel at PLBN Motaain, PLBN employees, MSME entrepreneurs, and community members from the border area.

Farida added that the service is integrated with BRI’s ecosystem, including access to financing, transaction services, and MSME empowerment. This synergy is expected to boost economic activity among border communities, making them more productive and competitive.

“BRI is committed to continuously expanding its financial service reach to border areas to strengthen financial inclusion and improve community welfare. Through this step, BRI plays a role in supporting the development of PLBN areas as the front line of Indonesia’s economy,” she concluded.
