DYFI has called for marches and rallies on June 9 in front of government offices in all districts of the state, with employment demands at the forefront. That day is also DYFI’s foundation day.
On that day, DYFI will unite all unemployed people across the state and submit a charter of demands at various government offices, including District Magistrate offices, railway offices, and other departments in all districts, demanding employment, rehabilitation against hawker eviction, and inclusion of legitimate voters’ names in the voter list. This was announced by DYFI leadership at a press conference on Tuesday at Dinesh Majumdar Bhavan.
Youth leaders stated that even after the change in government, there is no proper direction for employment of the unemployed in the state. According to the CMI report, India’s unemployment rate is 9.2%, and in urban areas it is 13.6%. The unemployment rate among women is much higher compared to men. Young people working as Toto drivers or domestic helpers have no job security. The responsibility to provide them security lies with the state and central governments, but they are shirking this duty daily. Across the state, contractual workers are forced to sell their labor at low wages.
At the press conference, it was also demanded that recruitment be made to all vacant posts, transparent conduct of various government job exams including SSC and PSC, inclusion of voter names, and strong protest against hawker eviction and bulldozer rule. Alongside, on June 9, on DYFI’s foundation day, all youth of the state will be united and a ‘charter of demands’ will be submitted at DM and railway offices demanding employment, against hawker eviction, and for inclusion of legitimate voters’ names in the voter list. A march and rally have also been called for that day by DYFI.
Regarding industry, DYFI demands that closed factories be reopened and new factories be built. The land acquired for factory construction during the Left Front government’s time has not seen any steps by the current government to establish factories. DYFI demands that new factories be built on those acquired lands.
