On Wednesday, Ravichandran Ashwin suddenly announced the news. Ashwin, one of India’s best spinners and all-rounders, announced his retirement from the IPL. This year, he also played for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. After bidding farewell to international cricket last December, his decision has stunned the Indian cricket community. On his X handle, he stated, ‘Everyone says that the end of one thing marks the beginning of another. Today, I am drawing the curtain on my career. However, my journey as an explorer in other competitions begins from today.’ Along with this, he also thanked all the franchises for giving him many beautiful memories.
According to BCCI regulations, no cricketer can participate in any foreign competition without retiring from Indian cricket and the IPL. Perhaps that is why Ashwin has taken this decision. From 2009 to 2025, he played a total of 221 matches in the IPL and took 187 wickets. His run tally with the bat is also quite impressive. In 92 innings, he scored a total of 833 runs.
