Hyderabad — The state government has informed the High Court that it has paid ₹25 lakh each to the families of the deceased in the major accident at SIGACHI Industries Limited in Pashamailaram, Sangareddy district. It was reported that the critically injured received ₹10 lakh, and those with minor injuries received ₹5 lakh. In this regard, the Chief Secretary filed a counter-petition in the High Court with full details. Upon the petitioner’s advocate requesting time to present further arguments on this counter-petition, the High Court adjourned the hearing of the case until September 17.
It is noteworthy that on June 30, a severe explosion at SIGACHI Industries in the Pashamailaram Industrial Estate of Patancheru Mandal resulted in the deaths of 46 people and injured 28. Eight people are still missing. A public interest litigation was filed in the High Court. It was stated that the factory lacked safety regulations and that there was a delay in providing compensation to the affected workers’ families.
A division bench heard the case again. During the hearing, it was stated on behalf of the government that a counter-petition had been filed with complete information regarding the incident, including compensation and committees. The petitioner’s counsel requested time to respond to the counter filed by the government. Following this, the bench adjourned the next hearing until September 17.
Immediate Assistance of ₹1 Lakh Released
In the counter-petition, the Chief Secretary stated that the government would provide appropriate compensation to all victims in accordance with state and central employment benefit laws. The Chief Minister announced that the families of the deceased would be provided with an amount of one crore rupees. This compensation will be provided in collaboration with SIGACHI and the Labor Department. The government formed a high-level committee immediately after the incident.

The committee initially concluded that the cause of the accident was safety negligence, lack of control measures, and insufficient preparedness for emergencies. A comprehensive report is awaited. Upon receiving information about the incident, 265 personnel from HYDRA, 25 from NDRF, 350 from SDRF and the Fire Department, 200 from District Police, and 9 from TGSF participated in the rescue operation. The victims were taken to hospitals and medical camps.

Death certificates for 43 people have been provided to their relatives. The cases of the other three are pending. The District Collector has written to the government for death certificates for eight people whose whereabouts are unknown. Immediately after the incident, on the orders of the Chief Minister, the Sangareddy District Collector provided immediate assistance.
The families of the deceased received one lakh rupees each, and the families of the injured received fifty thousand rupees each. The government has formed a five-member expert committee to investigate the incident, and its report is awaited. Reports have been received from the District Collector, Labor Department, Disaster Management Department, Police, and Industry Departments, which are being presented before the court.
