Washington, October 8, 2025. Former US President Donald Trump made an unusual and controversial statement during a public speech. He stated that in the future, Canada and the United States could merge politically and economically. This statement quickly went viral in American and international media and became a topic of discussion among political experts.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in the United States on Tuesday for a visit. While speaking with the press in the Oval Office alongside Carney, US President Donald Trump joked that Canada and the United States could merge.

Carney sidestepped the joke and said he supports Trump’s Gaza-Israel peace plan and that Canada would assist in it. Additionally, Carney praised Trump and credited him with establishing peace between several countries, including India and Pakistan.

During the conversation at the White House, Carney said, ‘You are a transformative and special President. You changed the economy, increased defense spending from NATO countries, and restored peace from India-Pakistan to Azerbaijan-Armenia.’

Carney has visited the United States for the second time this year. Accompanying Prime Minister Carney were Canada’s Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Foreign Minister Anita Anand, and Industry Minister Mélanie Joly, who also arrived in the United States.

Claimed to have prevented war between India and Pakistan more than 50 times

Previously, on Monday, Trump claimed in a speech that the power of his tariffs prevented a war between India and Pakistan. He had said, ‘If I didn’t have the power of tariffs, four out of seven wars would be ongoing. There was tension between India and Pakistan, seven aircraft were shot down. My words were very effective.’

From May until now, Trump has claimed approximately 50 times that his mediation brought peace between India and Pakistan. However, India has rejected the idea of third-party mediation. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the ceasefire on May 10 resulted from direct talks between the military officials of India and Pakistan.

Trump said – Carney made me quite famous

Trump praised Carney and jokingly said that the Canadian PM made him quite famous. He said that their relationship has been good from the start, but there are some minor disagreements that will be resolved.

Trump mentioned that tariffs would also be discussed in today’s talks but did not specify whether the tariffs imposed on Canada would be removed.

Trump referenced the Gaza war and said that peace is possible there. His team is working on it, and many countries around the world are with his peace plan. He said that something big could happen, but until then, the United States and Canada will make some trade agreements.
