Addis Ababa, June 6, 2026 – The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs successfully concluded a training program as part of human resource reform and development, focusing on situation analysis, trend analysis, and crisis management diplomacy, with the participation of over 60 diplomats through sessions conducted in-person and virtually.
Organizers explained that the training program was designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies of diplomats, enabling them to effectively protect Ethiopian national interests amid the rapid transformations in the global political and diplomatic landscape.
During the program’s closing ceremony, the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, emphasized that contemporary diplomacy requires adopting scientific approaches and modern methods in diplomatic work, highlighting the importance of continuous investment in developing professional cadres through ongoing training, knowledge enhancement, and skill refinement.
He added that building human capacity is an essential element to ensure the effective promotion and defense of national interests in various regional and international forums.
The minister also stated that the ministry intends to expand the scope of these training programs in the future to include all Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees, as part of its efforts to raise institutional efficiency and enhance professional performance.
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Segaye, noted that this program is part of the ministry’s three-year plan for institutional capacity building and human resource development.
He explained that the initiative aims to develop the professional competencies and functional skills of ministry staff, along with establishing a sustainable human resource development system aligned with the state’s priorities and national interests.
Ambassador Berhanu added that the training program seeks to strengthen the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prepare highly competent diplomatic cadres capable of performing their duties effectively, adhering to the professional and ethical standards required by modern diplomatic practice.
At the conclusion of the program, certificates of completion were distributed to participants who successfully met the program requirements, in recognition of their participation and benefit from the various training modules included in the program.
