The agreement was signed as part of Ethiopia’s accession negotiations to the organization, finalizing long-standing bilateral discussions between the two countries and including agreed commitments on market access in the goods and services sectors.
The protocol was signed by Ethiopia’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, along with the Indian counterpart.
Officials from both sides described the agreement as an important milestone on the path to strengthening Ethiopia’s integration into the global trading system.
Both parties also affirmed their joint commitment to supporting a multilateral trading system based on transparency, fair rules, and a focus on development.
The signing of the agreement is expected to contribute to enhancing economic cooperation between Ethiopia and India, as well as supporting Addis Ababa’s efforts to obtain full membership in the World Trade Organization.
