Addis Ababa is undergoing a rapid transformation to become a world-class city.
In an exclusive interview, the Assistant Secretary-General explained that Addis Ababa has seen a significant transformation as a global city and capital.
He pointed out that “Addis Ababa is evolving into a world-class city, thanks to its rapid development. It is remarkable how Addis Ababa has developed over the past two or three decades, as well as recently.”
The Assistant Secretary-General noted that Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies on the continent, explaining that rural development is also essential, as it is the core of comprehensive development.
He added that Ethiopia, measured by GDP, ranks among the top five economies on the continent.
Regarding the importance of environmental protection for the comprehensive growth of nations, and the ambitious “Green Legacy” initiative launched by Ethiopia, he affirmed that the environment represents a comprehensive priority.
According to the Assistant Secretary-General, COMESA works in close cooperation with all member states in the field of environmental protection and climate change management.
He believes that initiatives like Ethiopia’s “Green Legacy” are crucial efforts and initiatives for achieving sustainability.
He explained that without paying special attention to environmental protection and combating climate change, growth will not be sustainable.
He concluded by saying: “Following an approach that is as environmentally friendly as possible and reducing pollution and harmful practices as much as possible are very welcome and beautiful initiatives.”
