Chen Yiqin Attends and Declares the Opening
On August 7, the opening ceremony of the 12th World Games 2025 took place in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. State Councilor Chen Yiqin attended and declared the event open.
Under the night sky, the Chengdu Tianfu International Conference Center was brilliantly illuminated. At 8 PM, the opening ceremony began, with participants from 116 countries and regions entering the venue to a cheerful melody. The President of the International Olympic Committee delivered a video speech, while the Chairman of the Chengdu World Games Organizing Committee and the President of the International World Games Association also addressed the audience. At 9:20 PM, Chen Yiqin announced: “The 12th World Games Chengdu 2025 is now open!” The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause.
Following the announcement, cultural and sports performances titled “The Charm of Splendor” and the theme song performance “The Voice of Friendship” took place under the “Eaves of Tianfu,” blending sports with Chinese culture and Sichuan elements to showcase the theme of “Boundless Sports, Infinite Wonders.” As anticipated, the World Games flame was lit on the lake, using innovative technology to symbolize the fusion of water and fire, spreading the light of dreams worldwide.
The World Games, organized by the International World Games Association, is the largest and highest-level international multi-sport event for non-Olympic disciplines, held every four years. This edition features 34 sports, 60 disciplines, and 256 events, with nearly 4,000 athletes registered to compete. The Chinese delegation will consist of 321 athletes participating in 28 sports, 50 disciplines, and 152 events.
