Chongqing’s corn production has achieved an innovative breakthrough! On August 7, it was reported that a 400-mu demonstration field in Jiaopenjing Village, Shuangshi Town, Yongchuan District, yielded an average of 581.5 kilograms per mu. This represents a 21.93% increase compared to last year’s average yield in the region, with an additional income of 257.3 yuan per mu. The field utilized a high-density, high-yield, fully mechanized production technique called the “triangular pattern” method.

The “triangular pattern” high-density, high-yield fully mechanized production technology overcomes the bottleneck of “increased density leading to reduced efficiency” in traditional dense planting through “smart equipment + agricultural innovation.”

“Traditional dense planting is like ‘inserting chopsticks’—plants crowd together, competing for light and nutrients, resulting in poor ventilation, more diseases, and higher lodging risks. In contrast, the ‘triangular pattern’ layout cleverly uses spatial staggering, placing each corn plant in an advantageous edge-row position, effectively turning every plant into a ‘marginal plant.’ This greatly optimizes the utilization efficiency of light, heat, and land resources.” This scientific plant distribution is key to achieving “higher density without more disease, high yield with quality.” Under the same conditions, planting density can be increased by 30% to 50% compared to traditional methods.

This new technology provides a replicable solution for increasing corn production in hilly areas. The technology delivers a “three increases, three reductions” effect: significantly higher planting density (30%-50%), improved light energy utilization efficiency, and an average yield increase of over 20%. At the same time, it reduces disease incidence, lodging risks, and some pesticide and fertilizer input costs. This technology is expected to be promoted nationwide.
