Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed congratulated all African brothers and sisters on Africa Day, calling for greater continental unity and renewed commitment to action-based progress.

In a message posted on his social media accounts, the Prime Minister said: “Happy Africa Day to all our African brothers and sisters.”

The Prime Minister recalled the historic meeting held 63 years ago in Addis Ababa, where African leaders envisioned a free and united continent.

Abiy said: “Today, as the proud home of the African Union, Ethiopia stands alongside every African nation with the same spirit of unity.”

He also urged African nations to move “from words to deeds, and from promises to progress,” emphasizing that Africa’s greatest strength has always been its people.

The Prime Minister concluded his message on Africa Day by saying: “Together, we rise.”

Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa is the capital and largest city of Ethiopia, founded in 1886 by Emperor Menelik II. Its name means “New Flower” in Amharic, and it has served as the country’s political and cultural hub ever since. The AU’s headquarters are located in Addis Ababa, symbolizing a new era of collective African governance and self-determination.
