The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the completion of preparations for the road and infrastructure network in Mecca and the holy sites as part of its operational plan for the Hajj season of 1447 AH.

This was achieved through a wide range of development and field maintenance works aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing mobility efficiency in high-density areas.

Mecca and the Holy Sites

The ministry explained that the implemented works included the construction of over 11 million linear meters of roads, and the treatment and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces.

In addition, more than 1.2 million square meters were asphalted, enhancing the readiness of the road network and supporting traffic efficiency in Mecca and the holy sites during the season.

Readiness of 123 Bridges and 44 Tunnels Raised

It stated that the plan included raising the readiness of 123 bridges and 44 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles, in addition to carrying out improvement works on the infrastructure related to traffic routes, contributing to enhanced road safety and improved mobility efficiency in vital areas and around the holy sites.

The ministry emphasized that these works are part of an integrated operational system aimed at improving the efficiency of municipal infrastructure, enhancing traffic flow, and reducing congestion points in areas that experience high density during the season.
