Medan –
A video showing the actions of four men claiming to be police, pointing a firearm and intimidating a barber on Jalan Mustafa, Kelurahan Glugur Darat I, Medan Timur District, Medan City, North Sumatra, has gone viral on social media. This is what the North Sumatra Regional Police said regarding the incident.
In the circulating video seen on Thursday, the barber is seen in an argument with the men. One of them then pointed an object suspected to be a firearm. The argument ended in an assault at the location.
Viky Nduru, a victim who is also the barber, said the incident occurred on Monday around 02:06 AM local time. At that time, he and his friend were riding together on a motorcycle.
Upon arriving at the Glugur Darat traffic light intersection, precisely on Jalan Bambu, Viky and his friend were followed by four people claiming to be police officers. They were riding three motorcycles.
These four people tried to stop the victim’s vehicle. However, the dark road conditions caused the victim to panic and choose to accelerate.
“So someone called out and swore at us. Then my friend said, ‘Who is that?’ and he told me to continue the journey,” said Viky.
Upon arriving at Jalan Alfalah Raya, the four individuals continued to chase them and blocked their vehicle. Not only that, two of the four also pulled pistols from their pants pockets. The victim claimed they continued to be subjected to swearing.
“We immediately fled and headed to the barbershop,” he said.
The victim and his friend then arrived at the barbershop, which is also their residence. However, the four individuals instead came to that location.
“There was a verbal argument between us and those four alleged police officers. They entered the barbershop and wanted to take my friend,” Viky continued.
Viky claimed he asked them to show their identification as police members. However, they did not show it.
“I asked for their police membership card, but they didn’t show it. They kept swearing and beating my friend,” he stated.
Viky said one of them even pointed a pistol at his friend’s head. Viky also claimed his friend was assaulted until he was bruised.
Subsequently, according to Viky, the situation changed after he mentioned that their actions were recorded by a CCTV camera. They became intimidated and immediately left.
“Those four alleged police officers immediately backed down, put the pistol in their pants pocket, and then immediately left us,” he recounted.
Following the incident, Viky stated he had reported the event to the local neighborhood head. However, after waiting for three days, there was no response or goodwill from the perpetrators.
Finally, the victim reported the incident to the North Sumatra Regional Police’s Professional and Security Division.
The Head of Public Relations for the North Sumatra Regional Police stated that they are still conducting examinations of the suspected perpetrators. He also mentioned they will examine the weapons used by the perpetrators to threaten the victim.
“We are currently conducting further in-depth examinations of each perpetrator,” he said on Thursday.
