Business areas in Medan City were observed to have few visitors. This is due to circulating news about potential protest actions or demonstrations by various community groups at several locations.
Field observations until 1:40 PM local time showed that Sun Plaza Mall in Medan was operating. However, unlike previous days, the shopping center did not appear crowded.
Barbed wire fencing was seen on standby. One police vehicle was parked in front of Sun Plaza Medan.
The quiet atmosphere with few visitors was also observed at Medan Fair Plaza and Medan Mall. Both shopping centers, which are usually filled with thousands of visitors, now appeared empty. Only one or two people were seen entering Medan Fair Plaza and Medan Mall.
Used car sales centers on Jalan Nibung and Jalan Orion, as well as motorcycle parts shops on Jalan Masjid in Medan, also appeared quiet with few customers. Although stores appeared open, no visitors came to make purchases. The roads also appeared quiet with few vehicles passing by.
The same situation was observed at Pasar Petisah, the fabric sales center at Pajak Ikan Lama, and Pusat Pasar in Medan. Everything appeared quiet with many shops closed.
The lack of visitors in business areas of Medan City is connected to circulating information about potential demonstrations. This has led people to avoid crowded places.
