More than 300 cases of fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) could be added to the 235 incidents reported as of January 1.
“We continue to validate data from the Department of Health – Epidemiology Bureau. Three hundred plus cases may be added to the 235 reported yesterday.”
The total number of injuries could still increase as there are still late reports being collated and validated.
The DOH earlier said that the injuries were recorded nationwide from December 21 to 4 a.m., January 1.
The figure was 42% lower than the 403 cases logged during the same period last year.
The DOH said the top causes of FWRIs were unknown firecrackers, Boga, and 5-Star.
Meanwhile, the public was advised to immediately go to emergency hospitals if injured by fireworks and firecrackers. Vaccinations against tetanus in government hospitals are free.
Department of Health
The Department of Health is a government agency responsible for public health policy, regulation, and services. In the United States, the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was established in 1953, evolving from earlier public health services and agencies dating back to the late 18th century. Similar departments exist in many countries, typically formed in the 19th or 20th centuries to centralize and modernize national responses to health crises, sanitation, and disease control.
Department of Health – Epidemiology Bureau
The Department of Health – Epidemiology Bureau is a public health agency in the Philippines responsible for disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and the prevention and control of communicable diseases. Historically, its functions have evolved alongside the country’s public health system, playing a critical role in managing major health crises such as the SARS, influenza pandemics, and the COVID-19 outbreak. It operates under the national Department of Health to monitor health trends and implement strategies to protect the population from epidemics.
