Benghazi – The Ministry of Water Resources of the government mandated by the House of Representatives announced the opening of the gates of the Wadi al-Qattara dam in the city of Benghazi. This is a precautionary measure aimed at reducing the water level inside the dam, with the operation set to continue until tomorrow.
The ministry explained that the Emergency and Rapid Response Committee, in coordination with the Dams Administration, has begun implementing the comprehensive, approved plan for monitoring dams. This plan included opening the gates of the Wadi al-Qattara dam as a preventive measure.
It confirmed that the overall condition of the dams is reassuring and very good, and is subject to continuous follow-up and monitoring by the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of citizens and neighboring areas.
The Director of the Dams Administration clarified that this step comes in anticipation of an expected low-pressure weather system and is part of preventive measures aimed at protecting citizens and public and private property. He indicated that the water discharge process is carried out in calculated quantities and in batches through Wadi al-Qattara, according to precise and approved technical plans.
