On November 26, it was announced that the Banshan Huandao “Gas-Hydrogen-Electricity-Service” integrated energy station in Jiulongpo District has received national utility model patent certification and Chongqing’s first major technical equipment certification. This marks the official launch of the world’s first hydrogen refueling station successfully applying 45 MPa high-pressure hydrogen storage well technology in Chongqing, representing a significant breakthrough in high-pressure underground hydrogen storage technology and commercial operation.
The core hydrogen storage device is key to the hydrogen refueling station. Unlike traditional above-ground hydrogen storage equipment, the Banshan Huandao station innovatively places the hydrogen storage device vertically buried 150 meters underground in an “underground hydrogen warehouse” with a working pressure of 45 MPa. This technology has complete independent intellectual property rights and features constant temperature and high safety.
Chongqing has many mountains, steep slopes, and limited land availability. Compared to above-ground hydrogen storage equipment of the same scale, this technology can save two-thirds of the land area, successfully overcoming the land bottleneck for hydrogen energy infrastructure construction in mountainous cities and providing a new solution for similar regions.
The Banshan Huandao station has achieved safe and stable operation for over 1,500 days, with cumulative hydrogen supply exceeding 400 tons. The station has a daily hydrogen supply capacity of 1,000 kg, capable of meeting the refueling needs of approximately 100 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles per day, strongly supporting the operation of logistics, public transportation, and other vehicles along the Chengdu-Chongqing “Hydrogen Corridor” and the New Western Land-Sea Corridor.
The hydrogen used at the station relies on internal resources, utilizing chemical by-product hydrogen from Chuanyi Chemical, which is purified to 99.999% purity, forming a complete localized supply chain of “hydrogen production-purification-transportation-refueling.” Currently, eight hydrogen refueling stations have been built and put into operation in Chongqing, with plans to accelerate deployment along major highways in the Chengdu-Chongqing region to further expand the hydrogen energy network.
