The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning about significant climate pattern changes.

This year’s climate patterns are drastically different.

“The 2025 dry season was short, and rain has already started to arrive earlier, particularly in the southern region of Tangerang Regency,” the agency stated during an emergency coordination meeting with all regional leadership and related agencies.

It was emphasized that the current transition period is actually the most vulnerable time.

The potential for extreme weather, ranging from high-intensity rainfall, strong winds, to flooding, is more likely to occur before the full rainy season begins.

“We project the peak of the rainy season will occur in February 2026, with an increased likelihood of extreme weather events, particularly in disaster-prone areas,” the agency explained.

Therefore, BMKG urged the Tangerang Regency Government to use this weather forecast information as the primary basis for formulating policies and disaster mitigation measures.

19 Subdistricts Prone to Floods and Landslides

In response to BMKG’s prediction, the Tangerang Regent requested all regional apparatus to enhance preparedness.

It is recorded that 19 subdistricts in Tangerang Regency fall into the flood-prone category during prolonged heavy rainfall.

“All areas must be prepared. We have asked all subdistrict heads and related regional apparatus organizations to increase readiness,” the Regent emphasized.

As a preventive measure at the community level, the Regent requested subdistrict heads to mobilize regular community service every Friday to clean water channels.

“In addition to floods, the Tangerang Regency Government is also mapping landslide-prone points and other hydrometeorological disasters,” the statement concluded.

Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is Indonesia’s national institution responsible for providing meteorological, climatological, and geophysical services. It was officially established in its current form in 1980, but its origins trace back to a magnetic and meteorological observatory founded by the Dutch colonial government in 1866. The BMKG plays a critical role in monitoring weather, climate, and natural hazards like earthquakes and tsunamis to protect public safety.
