Chongqing, September 29 – The media conference for the 2025 Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating was held in Chongqing on September 29. It was announced that from October 24 to 26, Chongqing will welcome 60 top figure skaters from 14 countries worldwide, presenting audiences with a visual spectacle described as “the fusion of sport and art, the collision of ice and fire.”

The Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating is an international top-level competition organized by the International Skating Union (ISU). As one of the six stops in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series, the event has been successfully held 19 times in various Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai since it first came to China in 2003. This year marks the fifth time the competition will be held in Chongqing. As a crucial stop in the Olympic season for top-level international figure skating competitions, this event serves as an important platform to assess the competitive condition of world-class athletes.

During the opening remarks, it was stated that in the post-Winter Olympics era, the Cup of China has become an important platform for showcasing China’s achievements in figure skating and promoting the popularity of winter sports. Chongqing, as a pioneer of winter sports in southwestern China, hosting the Cup of China for the fifth time represents a vivid implementation of the strategy to expand winter sports across regions. There are expectations that this event will help more people fall in love with the captivating sport of figure skating.

It was emphasized that the Cup of China serves as a key supporting point for Chongqing’s development as a “sports powerhouse city.” The competition is not only an arena for global athletes but also a window for Chongqing to showcase its “mountain and water city – beautiful land” to the world, promoting winter sports from mere athletic events to vehicles for enhancing citizens’ quality of life.

The current preparation status for the event was introduced, with commitments to provide comprehensive support including accommodation guarantees, food safety assurance, traffic safety measures, and medical services. An invitation was extended to winter sports enthusiasts worldwide.

Chinese men’s singles figure skater Jin Boyang mentioned that this year marks his tenth year participating in the Cup of China. He expressed feeling particularly at home with Chongqing’s warm atmosphere and familiar competition environment, noting that his programs this season will contain carefully designed details. Chinese women’s singles figure skater Zhang Ruiyang, who recently moved up to the senior level, stated that she had previously only watched the Cup of China on television and hopes to further突破 herself while competing alongside many excellent athletes. Chinese ice dance pair Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu expressed their anticipation for returning to the Cup of China, saying they want to “try something different” and hope to “present something fresh to everyone by performing programs with styles different from before.”

According to the competition schedule, the event will begin on October 24 with the rhythm dance for ice dance and short programs for women’s singles, men’s singles, and pairs skating. On October 25, free skating/free dance competitions for all disciplines will take place, with the award ceremony held that evening to determine the final medal winners. During the exhibition gala on October 26, athletes will set aside competitive pressures and present fans with an “immersive artistic show” through personalized performances.

The media conference not only revealed the core competition schedule and participant lineup but also officially launched ticket pre-sales, marking the countdown to this international top-level ice sports celebration.
