Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport announced on the 10th that its annual cargo and mail throughput exceeded 500,000 tons on December 9th, setting a new historical record since its opening and marking a new stage in the construction of Chongqing’s international aviation hub.

“Exceeding 500,000 tons in annual cargo and mail throughput is a significant milestone in building Chongqing’s international aviation hub,” stated the airport’s management. This year, the airport has focused on Europe and Southeast Asia as its two core directions, launching and increasing frequency on 9 new international (regional) cargo routes. It now operates 20 international (regional) cargo routes with 66 weekly flights, establishing an air logistics network connecting Europe and Southeast Asia, and building an efficient aerial bridge for products “Made in China” and “Made in Chongqing” to reach global markets.

With the improvement of its route network, the airport’s cargo consolidation capacity has significantly increased. It has successfully attracted leading logistics and e-commerce companies, including SF Express, JD Logistics, and TEMU, to increase their cargo consolidation operations in Chongqing.

To improve transfer efficiency, the airport recently cooperated with China Eastern Airlines Logistics to achieve direct tarmac transfers for international cargo in Chongqing for the first time. In the first 11 months of 2025, the airport’s international air-to-air transfer cargo volume reached 8,840 tons, a 78% increase compared to the same period last year.

As of November, the airport’s cross-border e-commerce cargo volume this year has accumulated to 21,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 31%. Chongqing is gradually becoming one of the main ports for cross-border e-commerce products from central and western China to go overseas.

Meanwhile, specialty imported products such as Nordic salmon and other chilled goods, South Asian eels, and Southeast Asian durians are rapidly converging in Chongqing, facilitated by inbound routes and comprehensive designated supervision site qualifications. In the future, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport will continue to increase the frequency of import routes from Europe, helping Chongqing to build a western China distribution center for chilled goods and imported fruits.
