On the morning of May 21, rescue forces were still searching for missing victims in a rockfall that killed one person and left two missing, which occurred on the afternoon of May 20 at the Cam Tu commune quarry area in Thanh Hoa province.
According to initial information from the Cam Tu commune People’s Committee, around 5:00 PM on May 20, while mining stone at the Cam Tu quarry of Anh Tuan Limited Company, workers including Lo Van Thoi (40 years old), Lo Van Quy (37 years old), and Hoang Van Ngay (38 years old), all residing in Lao Cai province, were suddenly buried by rocks and soil sliding down from the mountain.
The labor accident resulted in one death on the way to emergency care, and two people remain buried under the collapsed rock, not yet found.
This quarry area currently faces risks of further landslides and safety hazards.
On the night of May 20, Mr. Cao Van Cuong – Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee – arrived at the scene, directing rescue forces to urgently rescue victims, secure the site, and implement safety measures for the quarry area, as well as organizing visits, encouragement, and support for the victims’ families.
On the night of May 20, the Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee issued a directive instructing authorities, local governments, and enterprises to urgently address the consequences of the serious labor accident at the Cam Tu commune quarry of Anh Tuan Limited Company.

The Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee assigned the Provincial Police to lead and coordinate with relevant agencies, units, and localities to continue and urgently organize rescue operations to find missing victims, ensuring absolute safety for rescue personnel.
Investigate and clarify the cause of the accident, strictly handle any violating organizations or individuals (if any) according to legal regulations, and report to the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee immediately after initial investigation results are available for timely corrective measures.
Assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to lead and coordinate with the Department of Construction, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Home Affairs, Cam Tu commune People’s Committee, and relevant units to comprehensively inspect compliance with legal regulations on mineral mining activities, labor safety, and environmental protection at the quarry of Anh Tuan Limited Company; promptly propose strict handling of any violations (if any) according to regulations, and report the results to the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee before May 30.
