According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting this morning, a low-pressure area is currently active in the middle of the East Sea.

Currently, meteorological authorities have not yet provided assessments regarding the potential strengthening or movement direction of this low-pressure area.

Due to the influence of a trough with its axis around 12-14 degrees North latitude connected to a low-pressure area, the middle and southern East Sea regions (including the Spratly Islands), coastal waters from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing showers and thunderstorms.

Forecast for October 9-10, the middle and southern East Sea regions (including the Spratly Islands), coastal waters from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang, and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms.

During thunderstorms, there is potential for tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at levels 6-7, and sea waves over 2 meters high.

All vessels operating in the above areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong wind gusts.

Meteorological authorities also forecast that today and tonight, areas from southern Quang Tri to Hue, the South Central Coast and Southern regions will experience rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall from 15-40mm, locally some areas will have heavy to very heavy rain over 80mm, particularly in the Southern region where rain will concentrate in the afternoon and evening.

Afternoon and evening of October 9-10, the Central Highlands region will have scattered showers with rainfall from 10-30mm, locally some areas will have heavy rain over 60mm.

Warning of the risk of heavy rainfall exceeding 60mm within 3 hours. During thunderstorms, there is potential for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong wind gusts.

Localized heavy rain may cause flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas.

After many days of continuous heavy rain due to storm effects, today October 9-10, the weather in the Northern region has returned to sunny conditions. The Southern region will have intermittent sunshine, with showers to heavy rain in some places during the afternoon and evening.

East Sea

The East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, is a marginal sea of the western Pacific Ocean bordered by Japan, Korea, and Russia. Historically, it has been a vital maritime route for trade and cultural exchange in East Asia. The naming of the body of water has been a subject of diplomatic discussion, with “East Sea” being the preferred term used in Korea.

Quang Tri

Quang Tri is a province in central Vietnam, historically significant as the location of the former Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) during the Vietnam War. It is the site of the Quang Tri Citadel and the ancient Ái Tử capital, bearing witness to fierce battles and a long, rich history. Today, it is home to many poignant war memorials and relics.

Southern region

The “Southern region” is a broad term, but it often refers to the southern United States, a culturally distinct area with a complex history. Its economy was historically defined by plantation agriculture, which was dependent on enslaved labor. This history profoundly shaped the region’s culture, cuisine, and social dynamics, leading to its significant role in the American Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement.

Hue

Hue served as the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. Its most prominent landmark is the Imperial City, a vast walled complex within the Citadel that housed the emperor’s residence and official buildings. Today, the historic monuments of Hue, including several royal tombs along the Perfume River, are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

South Central Coast

The South Central Coast of Vietnam is a culturally rich and scenic region stretching from Đà Nẵng to Bình Thuận. It is historically significant as the heart of the ancient Champa Kingdom, with the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, serving as a remarkable complex of Hindu temple ruins. The area is also renowned for its beautiful beaches, vibrant coastal cities like Đà Nẵng and Nha Trang, and its unique culinary traditions.

Spratly Islands

The Spratly Islands are a disputed archipelago in the South China Sea, comprising numerous small islands, reefs, and atolls. Historically claimed in part or whole by several nations including China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Malaysia, the islands are strategically significant due to their location and potential natural resources. This has led to ongoing territorial disputes and significant military build-up in the region.

Ca Mau

Ca Mau is the southernmost province of Vietnam, renowned for its vast and pristine mangrove forests within the Mũi Cà Mau (Ca Mau Cape) National Park. Historically, it was a wild and remote area that was gradually settled and developed, with its distinctive ecosystem and culture shaped by the Mekong Delta’s waterways. Today, it is a key ecotourism destination, famous for its unique floating markets, bird sanctuaries, and being the “end of the map” of Vietnam.
