(Dan Tri) – Due to psychological fear and anxiety about discovering an illness, patient M.A. (50 years old, residing in Ninh Binh) carried a large breast tumor for an entire year. The tumor was successfully removed by doctors, weighing nearly 4kg.
On June 5, K Hospital reported the case of a patient with a giant breast tumor, measuring up to 26cm in diameter and weighing nearly 4kg.
The patient stated that she had noticed abnormal growth and rapid enlargement of the tumor in her right breast, but due to psychological fear, she delayed seeking medical examination. After nearly a year, the tumor grew faster, causing compression, pain, and difficulty in daily activities, prompting her to visit K Hospital for examination.
Doctors diagnosed the patient with a right breast fibroadenoma, a large tumor approximately 26cm in diameter.
Doctors assessed that the tumor had been present for a long time, progressed rapidly, and posed risks of rupture and bleeding. Therefore, after consultation, the doctors decided to surgically remove the tumor while preserving the patient’s breast.
Following the surgery, doctors completely removed the 26cm tumor, weighing nearly 4kg, and successfully preserved the breast.
Due to the large size of the tumor, doctors carefully managed blood loss and maintained stable vital signs to ensure a safe and successful operation.
After the surgery, the patient’s condition is stable. The patient is especially happy because she no longer feels self-conscious about the significant asymmetry between her breasts; daily activities are also easier, and her health is no longer affected by the heavy tumor as before.
According to doctors, in this patient’s case, psychological fear led to delayed examination, allowing the tumor to grow excessively large, making the surgery more challenging. In contrast, if detected early and treated when the tumor was small, it would have been much simpler, the patient would have recovered faster, and would not have endured such a long-term psychological burden.
Therefore, doctors recommend that women should proactively prevent disease by regularly monitoring their health. At the same time, women should frequently perform self-examinations for any abnormalities on their bodies and promptly visit the hospital to see a doctor for detection and treatment of breast-related issues.
