The U.S. Ambassador to NATO stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might attend the U.S.-Russia summit this week in Alaska, as European leaders push for Kyiv’s inclusion in the negotiations.
When asked whether Zelensky could join U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the ambassador replied, “Yes, I definitely think that’s possible. No agreement can be made without the approval of all involved parties, and ending this war is clearly a top priority.”
Ukraine Rejects Concessions
The planned summit has raised concerns that any agreement might require Kyiv to cede parts of its territory, which Ukraine and the EU have rejected.
As part of his intensive diplomatic efforts, Zelensky held phone calls with 13 leaders over three days, including the leaders of key supporting nations—Germany, Britain, and France.
Trump Holds the Decision
The ambassador noted that the final decision rests with Trump, saying, “If he believes inviting Zelensky is the best scenario, he will do so,” adding that “no decision has been made yet.”
Tens of thousands have been killed since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and millions have been forced to flee their homes.
