African-Union-suspends-Madagascar-membership-with-immediate-effect

The African Union suspended Madagascar’s membership in its institutions on Wednesday “with immediate effect,” following the military’s seizure of power and ousting of President Andry Rajoelina.

A special unit of the Malagasy army, led by Colonel Mikael Randrianirina, announced on Tuesday that it had taken control, shortly after the National Assembly decided to remove President Rajoelina, who is believed to have left the country.

The chairman of the African Union Commission stated that “Madagascar’s membership has been suspended with immediate effect.”
