A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Tokara Islands in southwestern Japan on Wednesday evening.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the earthquake occurred in nearby waters of the islands at a shallow depth.
Local authorities confirmed there were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage from the earthquake, and no warnings of high tidal waves “tsunami” were issued.
