Andi Eigenmann took to Instagram to commemorate the 11th death anniversary of her father Mark Gil.

First reposting photos from her half-siblings, the Siargao resident concluded her commemoration with an old photo of the two of them and reflected about grief.

According to Andi, just because she’s more “comfortable” she’s gotten about carrying the grief from his passing doesn’t mean it gets any easier.

“In fact, sometimes it feels even heavier. Because the longer my life goes on, the more the moments we share seem to shrink into tiny fragments of my whole life. And that’s why breaks me,” Andi wrote.

“As I grow older, the moments I once had with him don’t grow with me. They stay the same,” she continued, saying there were so many new things — milestones and victories in her life — she wished her father could’ve witnessed, including and perhaps most importantly of all, “his grandkids, that I know he would be so proud of.”

Reflecting on memories and their power, Andi said those few special moments with her father “are still my most precious treasures.”

“Grief has a way of teaching us how much love can stay alive, even when someone is gone,” she said.

He was diagnosed with cirrhosis in 2012 and decided not to undergo any treatment. He died 11 years ago, on September 1, 2014 at the age of 52.

Instagram

Instagram is a popular social media platform and photo-sharing service launched in 2010, which allows users to edit and post images and short videos. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and rapidly grew to become a major cultural hub for visual communication, personal branding, and digital marketing before being acquired by Facebook (now Meta) in 2012.

Siargao

Siargao is a teardrop-shaped island in the Philippines, renowned globally as a premier surfing destination, particularly for its famous Cloud 9 break. Historically a quiet fishing and agricultural island, its international reputation began to grow in the late 1980s and 1990s after surfers discovered its spectacular waves. Today, it is a major tourism hub that still retains its laid-back island charm and lush natural landscapes.
