Three Congressional Seats to Be Removed: Duterte Youth Disqualified by Comelec

The Second Division of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has canceled the registration of the Duterte Youth party-list by a vote of 2-1.

The decision is not yet final and the group can appeal within five days.

The decision stemmed from a 2019 petition stating that Duterte Youth does not truly represent the youth and also failed to comply with the requirements for publication and public hearing.

“The public cannot be expected to be aware of party-list organizations who seek to be registered if the petitions remain with the annals of the Commission. Without compliance to these requisites, the electorate are deprived of the right to information on matters of public concern, ultimately undermining the integrity of the elections,” according to the decision of the poll body.
