The GREEN×EXPO Association (Naka Ward, Yokohama) held the “GREEN×EXPO 2027 500 Days Until Opening Press Conference” in Tokyo.

For international exhibitions, Ambassador Jabir Jalal Al-Maari of Qatar, the first country to sign an exhibition contract, took the stage. He stated, “This exposition in Yokohama symbolizes international cooperation toward a sustainable and harmonious future,” and shared a vision of collaboration between technology, tradition, and local communities.
Four major project sponsors were introduced: Taisei Corporation, Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, Piexcre, and Bank of Yokohama. Various participation opportunities were announced including public events, commercial outlets, volunteer programs, and citizen participation programs, building momentum for the opening just 500 days away.
The official ambassador shared her excitement: “Since I first got involved, the details have been gradually taking shape. The silhouette of GREEN×EXPO is becoming clearer and clearer, and I’m getting really excited. I can’t wait to see the full picture.” She met the official mascot character “TunkTunk” for the first time, petting its round body and saying “So cute!” as they interacted.
Regarding the upcoming event, she expressed: “I truly feel that plants are crucial as one key to solving various global environmental problems. I sincerely believe that understanding and interest in plants will lead to tomorrow’s scenery that creates our happiness. As an ambassador, I hope to help communicate the appeal of this expo together, and learn and walk alongside as many people as possible to create a happy future.”
GREEN×EXPO 2027 is the highest-class international horticultural exposition to be held in Japan, taking place from March 19 to September 26, 2027 in Yokohama’s Asahi Ward and Seya Ward. The venue will use approximately 100 hectares of the former Kami-Seyama Communications Facility’s total 242 hectares, which was returned from US military use in 2015. Paid attendance is expected to exceed 10 million visitors, with total participation projected at 15 million people.
