From July 30, Yokohama Takashimaya (1 Minamisai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama) will host the “[JAL] After Flying in the Sky POP UP SHOP,” selling upcycled aircraft parts that were destined for disposal.

This initiative by Yokohama Takashimaya, in collaboration with JAL Engineering (Ota-ku, Tokyo), which maintains JAL Group aircraft, is part of their SDGs efforts.

Products are crafted from aircraft parts that were scheduled for disposal, utilizing the ideas and skills of maintenance technicians. Available items include a “Miniature Life Vest” (¥3,630) made from an unused life vest removed from an aircraft for routine replacement, a keychain called “FUSELAGE SKIN TAG” (¥14,300) made from a section of the outer fuselage skin of the retired “Boeing 777-200 JA772J,” a “Seat Cover Body Bag” (¥16,500) made from domestic economy-class seat covers with flame resistance and durability required for aircraft cabin parts, and a “Seat Cover Stool” (¥16,500) featuring seat covers from domestic Boeing 777 first-class, class J, and economy-class seats, allowing users to appreciate the different leather textures.

On August 2 and 3, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, a service will be offered where JAL Engineering maintenance technicians will engrave names on-site for customers purchasing either a “Cabin Window Golf Name Tag” or a “Cabin Window Name Tag.”

The organizer commented, “During summer vacation, when air travel increases, aircraft parts that once safeguarded our journeys transform and take flight again in a new form.”

The event will be held at the 6th-floor Men’s Accessories Event Space. Operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (closing at 5:00 PM on the final day). The event runs until August 12.

JAL Engineering

JAL Engineering does not appear to be a widely recognized cultural or historical site. If you are referring to **Japan Airlines (JAL) Engineering**, it is a division of Japan Airlines responsible for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul. Founded as part of JAL’s operations in the 1950s, it plays a key role in ensuring aviation safety and efficiency in Japan’s airline industry.
