For motorcycle riders, overtaking other vehicles on the road is a common practice. However, this maneuver is one of the riskiest if not done correctly.
Many riders assume this is simple, but it requires high alertness and proper technique to stay safe. Without proper preparation and judgment, overtaking can lead to accidents, endangering both the rider and other road users.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for safe overtaking:
- Ensure the opposite lane is completely clear and safe.
Do not rush if visibility is limited or traffic is heavy.
- Turn on the right turn signal to indicate your intention to overtake.
This alerts riders both ahead and behind you.
- Check the rearview mirror
Make sure no other vehicle is also attempting to overtake from behind.
- Gradually increase speed while maintaining control.
Avoid sudden acceleration and ensure the bike remains stable.
- After successfully overtaking, immediately return to the left lane by signaling left.
Do not stay in the right lane for too long, as it can endanger yourself and others.
“Overtaking isn’t about looking cool or rushing to your destination. Riders must stay calm, observe their surroundings, and prioritize safety.”
Safety is not just a personal responsibility but also a form of care for fellow road users. By understanding the risks and applying proper riding techniques, every journey can be safer and more comfortable for everyone.

Persib midfielder Abdul Aziz is seriously expanding his padel court business in Bandung.
Seeing the rising global trend of padel sports, Aziz, along with several partners including Rizky Ridho, has taken the initiative to build these sports facilities as a sustainable business opportunity.
“Business is about timing. Padel is currently trending, not just in Indonesia or Bandung, but worldwide. So I see this as a long-term opportunity, not just a passing trend.”
Currently, Aziz has built four padel courts and is preparing expansions in three other locations in Bandung: Hotel Horison, Batununggal, and the Pungkur area.
“All ongoing projects are also padel courts.”
Previously, Aziz also ran a Mini Soccer business. However, he now focuses more on padel due to its promising prospects.
“The Mini Soccer business is still running, with four locations. But for now, we’ve paused new developments to focus on padel.”
According to him, padel has a broad and inclusive market. “Kids to adults can all play and enjoy it. In Jakarta, padel court schedules are already hard to book, so many come to Bandung for both sports and leisure. We aim to promote it as a sports tourism destination.”
The grand opening of his padel courts is planned for late August 2025. Construction is still underway, including finishing supporting facilities like restrooms and lounge areas.
Besides padel, Aziz continues his other business ventures, such as food and apparel. “The food business is still running, and so is Infiny.”
The involvement of Aziz and fellow national footballers in business reflects a growing trend among athletes to diversify income through investments beyond sports.
