Ochanomizu University announced on the 6th that it has issued a disciplinary warning to a lecturer in his 30s from the university’s core research institute for committing academic harassment against a student. The lecturer acknowledged the facts and reportedly told the university’s investigation committee, “I regret that there were shortcomings in how I handled the student.”

According to the university, around April 2023, the lecturer made unilateral criticisms and significantly reduced academic guidance toward a student in his research lab. The issue came to light after the student reported it to the university’s consultation desk. The university plans to require the lecturer to complete a “behavior improvement program.”
