According to the police, around 2:40 PM on the 20th, a female driver traveling along National Route 228 from Fukushima Town to Shiriuchi Town reported spotting a bear.
The bear was approximately 1 meter in length and was seen about 500 meters from the Oshima Seibu Regional Administrative Association Sanitation Center toward Matsumae.
At the time, the distance between the car and the bear was about 50 meters, and the bear reportedly retreated into the forest.
The area is roughly 1.8 kilometers away from residential homes, and police have heightened vigilance.
In Fukushima Town, on July 18 around 3:30 AM, a hunter culled a bear that had entered a residential area in Tsukizaki.
On July 12, about 1 kilometer from the recent sighting, a man was attacked and killed by a bear estimated to be 1.5 meters in length.
The prefecture had initially issued its first “Brown Bear Warning” for the entire town but later downgraded it to a “Brown Bear Advisory” after the bear responsible for the fatal attack was eliminated.
The advisory remains in effect until August 11, with continued calls for caution.
