Toyota Motor Corporation has canceled the development of its next-generation electric vehicle (EV), originally planned for release this year. The decision was made due to changes in demand. According to Toyota, the discontinued model is the “LF-ZC,” a sedan under the luxury brand Lexus. The prototype was unveiled in 2023 and attracted attention for its next-generation battery, expected to provide a driving range of approximately 1,000 kilometers—double that of existing EVs at the time. The company plans to continue developing related technologies, such as batteries. The move is believed to be driven by a slowdown in global EV demand, particularly in the United States. Honda has also canceled the development of three models planned for North America, while Subaru and Mazda have decided to postpone their launches. Among domestic manufacturers, there is a growing trend to focus on developing hybrid vehicles as a “bridge” to EVs.
