Two vice presidents are set to resign. Chubu Electric Power announced that improper procedures occurred during construction at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant.
According to Chubu Electric, for some safety enhancement work at the Hamaoka plant, the company failed to follow internal rules for contract modifications and settlement procedures, and did not make payments to contractors.
The affected construction work involved 20 projects between February 2013 and May 2019, with unsettled amounts totaling at least several billion yen. The company also revealed that two vice presidents from the nuclear division will resign effective November 30 for failing to report the matter to the board of directors.
Chubu Electric stated that the improper procedures “do not affect” the safety of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant. The company president commented, “We apologize to our customers and stakeholders. We will ensure proper governance function and strive to operate a trustworthy nuclear business.”
