Prime Minister Takaichi has begun coordinating to instruct the drafting of a supplementary budget as early as next week. The government plans to implement subsidies for summer electricity and gas bills, as usual, targeting the period from July to September. It also intends to continue the gasoline subsidy that keeps regular gasoline at around 170 yen per liter. According to sources, Prime Minister Takaichi is considering announcing the drafting of a supplementary budget next week to implement these policies, and instructing measures such as increasing reserve funds. Regarding the scale, a senior government official stated that “a large-scale comprehensive economic package is not necessary,” and there are voices suggesting that additional issuance of deficit-covering bonds is unavoidable for funding.
