A veteran member of the Gifu Prefectural Assembly has passed away.
According to the Gifu Prefectural Assembly Office, assembly member Kazuhiro Tamada died yesterday afternoon due to acute pneumonia. He was 81 years old.
Tamada served as a Gifu City Council member for 10 years starting in 1977, was first elected to the Prefectural Assembly in 1991, and was currently in his ninth term. He had also served as the assembly’s chairman.
In November of last year, Tamada was involved in a fatal car accident in Gifu City where his passenger vehicle collided with a light car, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old man. He was summarily indicted for negligent driving causing death and injury and received a summary order of a 500,000 yen fine. The funeral and farewell ceremony will be held only for close relatives.
