SOUTH TANGERANG – The South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) has affirmed its readiness to host the VII Banten 2026 Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). Preparations are complete, ranging from the mapping of competition venues to funding support.

This was directly stated by the South Tangerang Deputy Mayor, Pilar Saga Ichsan, while attending the Opening of Mapping and Coaching for Sports Branches of the 2026 Porprov Athletes in Serpong, on Wednesday (27/08).

“God willing, South Tangerang City is ready. We have prepared various venues, whether owned by the city government, the community, companies, or schools,” said Pilar. “They are very enthusiastic about being involved, so we are building synergy for shared success.”

Synergy and Venue Readiness for Porprov 2026

Pilar added that the enthusiasm from various parties proves that the 2026 Banten Porprov is a shared agenda. Various venues have been mapped, including facilities belonging to universities and TNI/Polri (Indonesian National Armed Forces/Indonesian National Police) institutions.

“Certainly, we are preparing the venues according to standards. Some we are repairing, others we are reorganizing. KONI (National Sports Committee) will determine which are the most suitable,” he explained.

Budget Support and Overall Champion Target

Regarding funding, the South Tangerang City Government has distributed a grant fund of IDR 25 billion in 2025 to support athlete development. Meanwhile, the budget for venue operations will be synergized with the Banten Provincial Government through the 2026 Regional Budget (APBD).

“We will adjust the budget, determining what falls under the provincial domain and what can be handled by the South Tangerang City Government. The principle is, we are ready to support so the execution can run smoothly,” stated Pilar.

Besides succeeding as the host, South Tangerang is also targeting a high goal of achieving the overall champion title. Pilar emphasized the importance of maximum preparation for athletes and sports branches (cabor).

“The hope is that South Tangerang succeeds not only as a host but also in achievements. Especially since we are the host, our preparations must be more intense,” he concluded.

South Tangerang City

South Tangerang City is a relatively new administrative city in Indonesia, formally established in 2008 after being carved out of the larger Tangerang Regency. Historically part of the Banten Sultanate, the area has rapidly transformed from a region of villages and farmland into a major modern residential and commercial hub on the southern outskirts of Jakarta.

Banten

Banten is a historic port city and former sultanate on the northwest coast of Java, Indonesia, which was a major center for the pepper trade and a powerful Islamic kingdom in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its most famous cultural site is the Grand Mosque of Banten, built in the 16th century, which features a unique multi-tiered pagoda-like tower influenced by Chinese architectural styles. The ruins of the Dutch Fort Speelwijk also stand as a testament to the region’s importance during the colonial era.

Serpong

Serpong is a rapidly developing suburban district located within South Tangerang, Indonesia, primarily known for its modern residential townships and technology hub. Historically a rural area, its modern history began with large-scale development in the late 1980s and 1990s, transforming it into a major satellite city for Jakarta. It is now a key part of the Jabodetabek metropolitan area, home to the BSD City development and numerous educational and industrial parks.
