Medan. The Phantom KTV nightlife venue on Jalan Adam Malik, Medan, has been officially closed after being suspected as a location for drug trafficking. In the case disclosure, the Medan City Police named two individuals as suspects, while six others underwent rehabilitation after urine test results showed positive for narcotics consumption.
The Medan City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Calvijn Simanjuntak, stated that the location had previously been involved in a similar case when it operated under the name Dragon KTV.
“Previously, this place was raided for the same reason, with evidence of 700 ecstasy pills when it was still called Dragon KTV in 2025. At Phantom KTV, ecstasy-type drugs were uncovered hidden in packaged rice containers, involving management,” Calvijn told reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
According to Calvijn, based on the statement of a witness, management was suspected of knowing about drug trafficking activities inside the venue but took no preventive measures.
Currently, investigators are developing the case to uncover a broader drug network, including tracing the connection between Dragon KTV and Phantom KTV.
“The team is still developing other networks. We are also pursuing a fugitive owner of the 700 ecstasy pills at the venue formerly known as Dragon KTV. We are also investigating the overlap or affiliation between Dragon KTV and Phantom KTV,” he revealed.
In addition to the drug case findings, the government also discovered several administrative and licensing violations. Some business documents, such as restaurant and bar permits and the Excise Goods Business Registration Number, were found to be incomplete. The business location was also reported to have never fulfilled tax payment obligations.
“The Medan City Government hopes that economic growth or business is welcome, but permits must be complete and not turn into drug transaction sites that harm the community,” Calvijn emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, stated that Phantom KTV’s operations cannot continue because it does not meet applicable licensing requirements.
According to Rico, the Medan City Government had actually issued a warning to the management since April 2026.
“Therefore, for now, this business permit cannot be continued because we have given a warning since April,” Rico Waas asserted.
The closure of Phantom KTV is part of law enforcement efforts against drug trafficking as well as the regulation of business locations that do not meet licensing requirements in Medan City.
