The North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office has issued an assignment order related to a report alleging corruption in the distribution of the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) for university studies and alleged conflicts of interest within the Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti) Region I of North Sumatra.

The issuance of the assignment order is a follow-up to the completed review process of the report.

“The assignment order has been issued. The next steps will involve summonses, interviews, and the collection of data and evidence,” said a representative.

It was explained that in the initial stage, the prosecutor’s office will conduct clarifications with parties suspected of knowing about or being related to the report, including the reporter and other relevant parties.

However, the specific parties to be summoned cannot be detailed yet as the handling process is still internal.
“It cannot be disclosed yet as it is still in the early stages of handling,” the representative said.

Previously, this case emerged following protests by student groups highlighting alleged lack of transparency in the distribution of KIP university funds and alleged conflicts of interest within LLDikti Region I of North Sumatra.

The students urged law enforcement officials to investigate the allegations transparently, as the KIP University program is funded by the state budget to assist underprivileged students.

It was added that the results of the clarifications and evidence collection will form the basis for determining the next legal steps, including the possibility of escalating the handling to the special crimes division if indications of violations are found.
