A man identified as SRC (33), a resident of Bangun Village, Parbuluan District, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, was detained by personnel from the Intelligence Unit of Kodim 0206/Dairi after being caught growing cannabis on his farmland.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday, April 24, 2026, following a report from the public who suspected the presence of illegal plants among SRC’s cornfield.
Acting on this information, the Intelligence Unit team from Kodim 0206/Dairi immediately held a briefing and moved to the location. Officers arrived at the suspect’s residence around 2:45 AM local time to conduct an initial inspection.
When questioned, SRC initially gave evasive answers. However, he was eventually taken to the Kodim 0206/Dairi Intelligence Unit office for further investigation.
In front of the officers, the suspect admitted to planting three cannabis plants in his garden about three months ago.
A field check was then conducted that morning, around 9:15 AM, involving personnel from the Dairi Police Narcotics Unit and witnessed by local village officials.
From the search, officers found three cannabis plants approximately 1.5 meters tall. The plants were hidden among the corn plantation area.
Based on the investigation, SRC claimed to have obtained the cannabis seeds from outside the region. He germinated the seeds himself before transplanting them to the field. He told officers the plants were only for personal consumption.
SRC also revealed that he had known about cannabis since he was 28 years old while working overseas in Pekanbaru, Riau.
He admitted to using cannabis to boost stamina and reduce body aches while working.
The case has been handed over to the police.
“The suspect and evidence have been submitted to the Dairi Police Narcotics Unit for further legal proceedings.”
For his actions, the suspect faces charges related to possession of class I narcotic plants, carrying a potential sentence of up to four years in prison.
The public is urged to remain proactive in reporting suspicious activities to help suppress narcotics circulation in the Dairi Regency area.
