Medan and its surrounding areas have recently experienced strong winds and high temperatures. During the day, the air temperature has even reached nearly 38°C.
According to temperature observation data from the Regional Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) Region I, this extreme weather began on July 15, 2025. On July 17, 2025, the maximum air temperature recorded at BBMKG Region I was 37.8°C, while at the Deli Serdang Geophysical Station, it was 36.7°C.

“Analysis of wind patterns on July 19, 2025, at 07:00 WIB and 19:00 WIB indicates strong westerly winds with a divergent (spreading) nature in North Sumatra,” stated the Head of BBMKG Region I in an official release.
Moreover, based on upper-air monitoring on July 19, 2025, winds at the 850-500 mbar layer were quite strong, reaching 50 km/h, with relatively dry air humidity at 15-87% RH.
“These conditions have made cloud formation quite difficult in Medan and its surrounding areas,” he added.
Furthermore, residents of Medan and nearby areas were advised to remain cautious, as hot temperatures and strong winds are likely to persist in the coming days.
“Over the next few days, the weather pattern is expected to remain similar to today. Given the persistently high temperatures, the public is urged to stay alert to potential fire hazards, limit outdoor activities, increase water and fruit intake, and use sunscreen,” the statement concluded.
