A severe fire broke out in a residential area on Jalan Putri Hijau, Kesawan Village, Medan Barat District, Medan, in the early hours of Sunday.

Reports indicate that the fire was first spotted in one of the houses. Strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly to neighboring homes, resulting in dozens of houses being burned down.

Firefighters deployed fire trucks to the scene and immediately began spraying water on the flames.

After nearly four hours of effort, the fire was finally extinguished. Residents affected by the blaze had evacuated to safer locations.

“The fire was successfully put out around 7:00 AM. We deployed 11 fire trucks,” said the Head of the Medan City Fire and Rescue Department.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities. Preliminary data suggests approximately 37 houses were completely destroyed. The extent of the damage has yet to be determined.”

According to the final report from the Medan City Fire Department, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. However, material losses are estimated to be significant, though the exact amount remains unclear.

To contain the spreading flames, the Medan City Fire Department mobilized 11 fire trucks, using a total of 216,500 liters of water.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The site has been secured for further examination to determine the origin of this tragic blaze.
