Flames engulfed a shop house in Mangga Dua, Pademangan, North Jakarta. Witnesses reported hearing explosions during the incident.
The fire occurred on Monday at 10:09 AM local time. Twelve firefighting units were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
“The fire was reported by residents, with the affected area located on the 5th floor of the shop house,” said the Head of Operations of the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department.
“A total of 12 firefighting units were dispatched,” he added.
The incident took place at Jalan Gunung Sahari No. 1, Ancol Village, Pademangan District, North Jakarta. Employees on the 4th floor were the first to notice the fire.
“According to witnesses, sparks were seen coming from electrical wiring on the 4th floor. The area contained flammable cardboard boxes, followed by small explosions, flames, and smoke,” he explained.
Employees attempted to extinguish the fire using portable fire extinguishers but were unsuccessful and alerted the fire department. Around 200 employees were safely evacuated.
Suspected Electrical Short Circuit

The fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit originating from the 4th floor.
“The preliminary cause points to an electrical malfunction on the 4th floor,” said the Head of Operations of the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department.
Estimated Loss of Rp 20 Billion
The fire department confirmed that two floors of the building were affected, with estimated losses reaching billions of rupiah.
“The fire damaged floors 4 and 5 of the AGRES ID building, covering approximately 3,000 square meters. Estimated losses amount to Rp 20 billion,” he stated.
4 People Injured
Four people sustained minor injuries in the fire.
“The fire has been extinguished. Four individuals suffered minor injuries,” said a Jakarta Disaster Management Agency official.
The fire spread across floors 3 to 5 of the Agres ID building, with an electrical short circuit suspected as the cause.
“The likely cause is an electrical short circuit. The affected area includes the Agres ID electronics store from the 3rd to the 5th floor,” he added.
