Police Arrest 1,240 People Following Unrest in Jakarta
Jakarta –
1,240 people were arrested in connection with the demonstration in Jakarta. It turns out those arrested by the police were from outside Jakarta.
“We need to convey that as of now, Metro Jaya Regional Police have arrested approximately 1,240 people from the start of the incident until now,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri.
Inspector General Asep stated that those arrested were not from Jakarta.
“They come from areas outside Jakarta, some from West Java, some from Java, and some from Banten,” he said.
He said they have also detected perpetrators related to cases of looting and destruction of public facilities in Jakarta. He mentioned they are still conducting investigations to proceed with legal action promptly.
“And for those who carried out acts of destruction or looting, we have detected them, we are just waiting to take firm action, arrests; please pray that everything goes well. As for the number, we will announce it later as it is technical, because our team is still working, and hopefully, the situation will remain conducive going forward,” he explained.
Inspector General Asep said that together with the Jaya Military Commander, they have received instructions from President Prabowo Subianto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to take firm action against perpetrators of destruction and anarchic acts. He hopes Jakarta will become more peaceful.
“For those expressing their opinions peacefully, it is not a problem, no issue. Hopefully, going forward, the city of Jakarta will become increasingly safe and peaceful,” he said.
