Jakarta –
Four students involved in an attack on a vocational high school student in North Jakarta have been named as suspects. All four have also been detained for further legal proceedings.
“The four students in custody are now suspects and have been detained,” said the North Jakarta Metro Police Chief.
He explained that one of the four suspects is an adult (over 17 years old), while the other three are minors.
“One suspect is an adult, three are underage. We have coordinated with the probation office, including during yesterday’s interrogation,” he stated.
The police chief added that the victim who suffered an acid attack is still undergoing treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta.
“The victim remains hospitalized. Their condition: one eye is stable while the other is still being treated,” he said.
Pooling Money to Buy Acid
Police revealed that the four detained students collectively purchased the acid. The chemical was bought for use in street fights.
“They pooled money to buy it, intending to use it during clashes,” said the police chief.
Investigations show the perpetrators had premeditated the attack. They actively searched for opponents but, finding none, targeted the victim who happened to pass by.
The victim and attackers were strangers. The victim sustained facial injuries requiring hospitalization after being doused with acid.
“Victim AP suffered facial wounds affecting the eyes,” he added.
The incident occurred on Friday. The four suspects, also students, were apprehended and are undergoing intensive questioning at North Jakarta Metro Police Station.
