Woman who filed false robbery report in Depok becomes suspect.
Jakarta –
A woman in Depok, West Java, Tasya Khairani, filed a false report claiming she was a victim of a motorcycle robbery, when in fact she had sold her motorcycle to pay off an online loan. Police have named Tasya as a suspect for the false report.
“Yes, that’s correct (suspect),” said the Public Relations Head of Metro Depok Police Resort.
Police stated that Tasya has not been detained at this time. However, she is currently required to report regularly.
“For now, she is under an obligation to report. Because the potential sentence is less than 1 year,” they said.
As a result of her actions, Tasya is charged under Article 220 regarding false reporting. The case is currently still under investigation by the police.
Motive
It was previously revealed that Tasya made the police report because she was afraid her parents would find out that she had sold her motorcycle.
“(The motive was) to pay off an online loan debt, but the money wasn’t enough. (She filed the report) so her parents wouldn’t find out she sold the motorcycle,” they stated.
In addition to making a false report about the robbery, Tasya also spread the false information on social media. This caused public unrest.
“Ironically, after making the police report, Tasya also shared the false information with someone who then reported it to the media. As a result, the news went viral and caused unrest in the community,” they explained.
