A video showing an alleged debt collector forcibly stopping a motorcyclist on Margonda Raya Street in Depok has gone viral on social media. The police have arrested the debt collector.
“We secured the perpetrator on Margonda Street on the same day of the incident, which occurred on the 6th (of August),” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at Depok Metro Police.
The victim filed a police report on Wednesday (6/8) at 6:00 PM local time. The police then arrested the debt collector, identified as SBL (38), around 8:00 PM.
“The victim reported the incident at 6 PM, and by 8 PM, we conducted an investigation and apprehended the suspect. The perpetrator’s initials are SBL (38).”
The motorcyclist was forcibly stopped while passing through Margonda Raya Street in Depok. The perpetrator initially misidentified the victim’s name.
“The sequence of events was that the victim was stopped, and the perpetrator called him ‘Samsul.’ The victim responded, ‘No,’ while pulling out his phone to record the incident.”
The perpetrator swatted the phone the victim was using to record the forced stop. The victim then called for help from other motorists.
“The perpetrator knocked the phone out of the victim’s hand. The victim then asked for help from passing motorists. The back of his head was also hit, but he was wearing a helmet. Other riders stopped, and the perpetrator quickly left.”
Gone Viral on Social Media
In the video circulating on social media on Wednesday (6/8), the motorcyclist is seen recording the incident. The alleged debt collector is seen wearing a pink sweater.
The suspected debt collector deliberately stopped the victim while he was still on his motorcycle. The sound of a motorcycle horn can be heard during the forced stop.
“Help, help!” the victim says.
According to the viral narrative, the victim felt he was being followed since passing through Margonda Raya Street. When reaching a roundabout, he was forcibly stopped by the debt collector, who claimed the victim had a fake license plate.
