Shell Agrees to Buy from Pertamina

Regarding this shortage, Shell is reported to have agreed to purchase pure fuel from Pertamina. The condition is that the purchased fuel is still crude and has not been mixed with other additives, as explained by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“Initially, Pertamina wanted to sell the finished product. But now they said, don’t sell the finished tea, just sell the hot water. So the product will be mixed later in the respective tanks at each gas station. And this has also been agreed upon; this is the solution,” the Minister stated some time ago.

Most recently, Pertamina Patra Niaga confirmed that a cargo of base fuel has arrived in Jakarta. The plan is for this fuel to be distributed to several private business entities to meet fuel supply needs.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga confirms that the required base fuel cargo has arrived in Jakarta according to the specifications of the Directorate General of Oil and Gas,” said the Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga.

It was stated that meetings with private business entities have been held twice, on Friday (9/19) and Tuesday (9/23). In the first meeting, the private business entities expressed their willingness to purchase fuel products based on base fuel that has not been mixed with additives and dyes.

Pertamina and the private business entities also agreed to use an open book pricing mechanism and involve an independent party (joint surveyor) to ensure the quality of the distributed product. This agreement is an important basis for ensuring transparency and supply certainty in the field.

Then, at the second meeting on Tuesday (9/23), all private business entities were present, namely Vivo, AKR, Exxon, BP, and Shell. Some companies still needed time to coordinate with their respective global headquarters, but they conveyed the same commitment to promptly communicate their additional quota needs.
